Saving The Results On iOS Devices

Directions To A Screenshot On iOS

1) Take a screenshot while !!!!!! landscape aka turn your phone on its side !!!!!! using power+lower volume of the previous page (you may need to disable rotate lock).

2) Click the new screenshot preview in the bottom left to edit.

3) Edit screenshot and select "Full Page Width" instead of "Screen" at the top of the edit window.

4) You can crop out the download buttons using the tool right of "DONE" Sometimes cropping is buggy and cuts off the side, if this occurs you may need to crop it in "iOS Photo's App" or an app of your choice.

5) The file will download as a PDF. IMPORTANT: The PDF will not appear in your photos, rather it appears within the "Files" app.

6) Optional: You can convert PDF to an image using a site (or an app?) like https://pdftoimage.com/ (Use At Your Own Risk)

Why is it complicated for iOS?

Webkit/iOS, the web engine behind all browsers on iOS is far behind in features compared to better browsers. This creates multiple challenges where certain functions do not work as intended because the feature does not exist, or do but are poorly documented/discussed. I spent several days trying solutions, but the library used to download images called html2canvas.js would fail to save the image, issue seemed related to the iOS file storage being atypical storage solution. Thus I found the workaround above. I will continue trying to fix this, but you are familiar with iOS web dev send me an email at [email protected]

It is still not working!

Below is the list of what devices are supported, this may change if browsers adopt different standards and changes. I develop this site using Chrome on Windows 11, expecting Chrome to work the best. Note: Chrome/Firefox on iOS is just Safari (WebKit clones) with different colors/branding, thus won't work because of the rules imposed by Apple for web browsers to Safari's WebKit.

Chrome v97.0.4692.99 (Supported)

Firefox v96.0.2 (Supported)

macOS - Chrome/Firefox (Supported)

Chrome - Android 12 (Likely Supported)

macOS - Safari (Likely Supported)

iOS - Chrome/Firefox/Other (NOT SUPPORTED) - See Work Around Above

iOS - Safari (NOT SUPPORTED) - See Work Around Above

I am still having issues ;-;
